The Dremel Stylus is my favorite piece of hardware for creating my customs. It also comes in handy for small at home projects too. For example: Drilling holes for screws and sanding down things. Anyways, this article is intended to go over what makes this tool superior for customizing.

Price & Value

Dremel 1100 Stylus 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool in hand image Price: $64.49 on Amazon
Personally, when I shop for something I look for its real value. I do not like to overpay for name brands or hyped items. I like what's practical, tested and efficient. For example: I would never drop 500$ for an iPhone when I could get an Android which can do much more and more efficiently given the user has the skills to take advantage of it.

So if you have or aspire to have the skills for customizing, the Stylus is worth more than its price of $65-$100. I would pay double for it because it is such a well-made & reliable tool. As I go down the topics you may understand why.

Power like a Formula One Race Car

Dremel 1100 Stylus 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool Power For those who pick this tool up, do not underestimate its power. The Stylus is more powerful than needed for customizing small models & transformers. It has 10 power settings which go from a Variable Speed 5,000-25,000 RPM which is VERY fast, faster than a Formula One car which is typical maxed at 18,000 to 22,000 RPM.

Devastator Says 'Wear your Eye Protection! When customizing my transformers, I normally do not go anywhere past the 4-5 setting. If you go any higher, plastics will melt and start to smoke. So... Power is no issue for Stylus. If you wish to intentionally melt plastic it is safer and more efficient to use a different tool. Always make sure to wear eye protection when using tools like the Dremel Stylus.

Balance & Precision Control: Google Image it

Dremel 1100 Stylus 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool Precision The Dremel Stylus is synonymous with Balance & Precision Control. That if you Google Image Search: Balance & Precision Control two images of the Dremel Stylus will show up on the first results page. (Tested November 26th 2011)

Well anyways... like a good blade, the Stylus is well balanced. If you ever used regular power tools they kind of wear you out after the while. Since the Stylus is so balanced that issue is well negated. With good balance comes precision, since the weight distribution is not so lob sided it is easy to navigate the tool towards your desire. The feel is simliar to using a pencil or pen.

Dremel 1100 Stylus 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool Versatility For starters the Stylus has many of the same functions of a standard rotary tool with emphasis on precision. Just look at included accessories list found below. It is pretty self-explanatory how versatile the Dremel Stylus really is. The only extra accessories I had to buy for my purposes were extra drill bits and circular saws.

Stock Accessories

The two accessories I recommend are these:

After having the stylus for over a year now, I'm very happy I paid the $100 for it. It has opened the doors to many customizing options for creating my customs. I have mainly been using it for creating magnet based connections, sanding, etching and small household projects.

You can purchase your own at Amazon for ~ 65 dollars here.

You can get the drill bits from Amazon here and the Cut-off Wheels here.
